Styles of the Diaspora
Styles of the Diaspora Discover and find out about the patterns identified in Islamic art and architecture from various components of the globe. We will draw the grids and principles behind every pattern, and design and style the patterns step by step making use of traditional strategies – with just a straight edge and compass. We will also reflect on the theory and symbolism behind the art, talk about the heritage, history and symbolism of this beautiful art form!  Each and every week will focus on a distinct pattern, and will be derived from parts of Africa, Southern Spain, the Indian subcontinent, and the Middle East. The course will culminate in a week of generating applying your chosen design to a product, or painting a watercolour or silk composition.   Age 12 upwards, everyone welcome. No earlier experience required. Costs contain all of the classes and components (except for a little added charge for materials for the last class (based on the solution chosen.
